Panorama
of the Millennium
of Christianity in Poland
For many pilgrims visiting the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Merrillville near Chicago, the so-called “Millennium Panorama” is a great attraction and at the same time a surprise.
The name itself may not completely reflect the extraordinary charm of the huge structure placed behind the main altar, possibly the world’s largest mobile Nativity Scene (Christmas crib). Its scenography referring to famous places in Poland, beautiful colorful robes, characters wearing regional costumes from various regions of Poland, intertwine with lively music, and the dignity of saints and kings majestically walking in adoration of Jesus, remind us about thousand-year old history of Christianity in Poland.
The characters from the “Panorama of the Millennium”, like centuries of Polish history, have a Holy Family with Baby Jesus in their center. The presentation of the “Panorama of the Millennium” lasts for about 30 minutes. It ends with touching words addressed to his compatriots by Saint John Paul II along with his blessing.
We strongly believe that not only the youngest visitors watching this specific history lesson in a nutshell, will learn to proudly continue the national history and traditions of Great and Holy Poles.
No description can reflect the charm of the “Panorama of the Millennium” from Merrillville. You have to come and see it for yourself. Observe the children who spontaneously laugh at the sight of the singing ox or donkey, are following individual characters with interest, including heroes from the history of the United States such as Tadeusz Kosciuszko or Kazimierz Pułaski, to finally listen to the excellently performed Polish National Anthem.
